Sunrise, FL –– Congressional candidate and healthcare company founder Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick announces that she has received the first labor endorsement in the special election to replace U.S. Rep. Alcee Hastings, who died in April.
And it is from one of the largest labor unions in Florida’s 20th District: The Communications Workers of America.
This support -- after endorsements from Brand New Congress and former Democratic presidential candidate Marianne Williamson -- solidifies Sheila’s position as the true progressive in the race.
Communications Workers of America Local 3104 President Mike Devane said he looked forward to working closely with Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick to pass the PRO Act in Congress, which would prohibit employers from requiring employees to attend union-busting meetings.
“Our union was a strong supporter of Alcee Hastings and we mourn his loss,” Devane said. “CWA Local 3104 feels that Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick will be an excellent candidate to replace Congressman Hastings and we hope that our endorsement helps her win the Democrat primary in November.”
“I am thrilled to have received the first major union endorsement of all the candidates in the Democrat Primary,” Cherfilus-McCormick said. “I am deeply humbled that this great organization has thrown their support behind my run for Congress. My family’s roots have always been very involved in supporting the labor movement and I will fight hard in Congress for union workers rights."
She is the only candidate with an actual proposal to take to Congress -- her People’s Prosperity Plan, which would give $12,000 a year in economic recovery checks to most Americans which is being promoted on select cable and TV networks can be viewed at www.PeoplesProsperityPlan.com.
Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick is also the only candidate to have already run in District 20, getting 32 percent of the vote against the veteran incumbent in 2020, a number guaranteed to place her in first in the divided list of at least 10 candidates running in the special election.
